I recently purchases a 1984 Hunter 27. The interior cushions are in good shape but have an odor. The odor smells primarily like diesel. Can these cushions be cleaned? The covers are removable. Can the interior foam be cleaned? How? Input would be most welcome. Roy

Detailed Method

I wrote a detailed response to a similar post on March 31st (if memory serves). It described how we are handling this problem on our H23. Check the archives under small boats, I think.

I cleaned mine

Roy - I've got a 1998 260, but even though it was newer the cushions needed cleaning. This topic was discussed in this forum about a week or so ago and others suggested the cushion covers could be dry cleaned. I actually took them off, put them in our clothes washer one to four at a time (depending on size), and washed them on gentle with standard soap and cold water. While they were washing I took the foam to the bathtub and washed it in hot soapy water. I did a final rinse of the foam outside with a hose, and then squeezed them dry. When the foam pads were nearly dry and the cushion covers were still wet I put the covers back on, hoping they'd maintain their shape and size better that way, and let them dry in the sun. They all came out beautifully. I'd do it again. Hope that helps, and fair winds.
