I have an Inflatable dinghy that was in the water all season, with very littleuse. When I beached it yesterday, the bottome was COVERED with thousands of Zebra mussles. I scraped them off as best I could and washed/scrubbed it, but it still has lots of remnants of their being there. What can I use to thoroughly clean the bottom? I've been told muriatic acid will work, but I'd hate to ruin it with such a strong solution. Also, any ideas on painting the bottom? VC-17, maybe?

Same thing happened to me last year

After scraping off the mussels with a plastic scraper, I left the inflatable upside down in the sun/rain for a few days. Then I used high pressure water and a stiff brush. Use inflatable bottom paint, cost about $40 per quart at West Marine but it works great! Two coats at first, then an annual maintenance coat. Fortunately, a little goes a long way.
