Cleaning Dingy Sails

Except for the big genoa with all the rust... I'll bet a day's soak in a mild detergent bath would put the sails in fairly good condition. I don't like putting bleach on sails. Some light scrubbing with a soft brush if you feel it will help..... but don't scrub furiously.... that will do more damage that it's worth. For a container, I found one of those plastic kiddie pools you'll see on sale at KMart or Walmart. Tying it to the top of my car was exciting.
Once you rinse.... spreading out to dry, or hanging up on a halyard, if you have the masts up, will make the wrinkles disappear. When you store them, use the correct folding technique... flake from bottom to top and roll, clew to tack, loosely.... you could simply roll the smaller ones if desired... but I'd make sure you store them separately, in their own bags.... with nothing attached such as sheets, shackles, wire pendants, chain.. etc. to prevent additional rust and avoid the tennis shoe in the dryer effect.
If you feel the need and have the bucks, you might consider having a couple ot the sails refurbished by a company like www.sailrite.com ... Your experience with your other boats will guide you here.... Good Luck.
