There are some very stubborn deposits in the head. Any suggestions for cleaning? My wife thought about CLR. Thanks for the help. Russell S/V Allie Kat

Try undiluted white vinegar...

Where specifically are the deposits--in the bowl, the discharge hose, the channel in the rim of the bow....???

Prob'ly just sea water calcium carbonates...

Undilutes white vinegar should dissolve 'em...spray it on when it can stand a while...come back, spray again...scrub a bit...spray again. CLR might be faster, but unless you can keep from going anywhere but in the bowl--don't flush it, I think you're better off using vinegar.

I don't think that a little CLR is going to hurt!

Russell: I always prefer to use something like vinegar but it is probably a little to mild for this job. If nothing else it will help clean out your system. I doubt that a little CLR is going to hurt anything. We use an old tooth brush dipped in the CLR and use it on calcium deposits. They are usually removed almost instantly. The prime ingredients in CLR are Phosphoric Acid & Glyolic Acid.

I wouldn't flush CLR...

Can you say for certain that it won't harm rubber, neoprene or flexible PVC, Steve? Or that it can't react negatively with a chemical holding tank treatment? You may not have had any problems using CLR...but can you guarantee that it won't cause problems for anyone? I'm VERY reluctant to recommend the use of any product that carries warnings about inhaling the fumes, wearing rubber gloves, and avoiding contact with metal.

I guess that you shouldn't use it then!

Peggie: I guess you should not use it. We use it all the time on our sinks at home. No fumes and no calcium. What I am talking about is put some on an old tooth brush and remove the calcium. Quick, simple and it works! There would not be enough residual on anything to make a difference.

That little bit should be ok as long as

it's wiped away or diluted with a LOT of water before flushing. What I worry about is somebody with an "if a little is good, a lot is better" mindset just spraying it on liberally, scrubbing...then flushing. Btw, I use it on my shower door. Good stuff.
