I have a 2 year old Raymarine chartplotter at the helm. I've been very careful to only clean with soft rags and water but it now has many "streaks" or "smudges" for lack of a better description. The manual says to clean with Isopropyl alcohol to remove "smudges". The streaks may be from finger oils/suntan lotion since people occasionally touch the screen. I want to make sure I don't damage any coating or anti-reflective film. I'm also researching protector films like http://www.navprotector.com to protect the screen and make it easier to clean. What does everybody else do?

I use eye glasses cleaner on mine, with a soft cloth. You can get it in the little spray bottle dirt cheap, almost anywhere. It's easy to not get more than you want, and it does a good job. I use it on my computer screen too.

My Samsung LCD manual warns NOT TO USE the eyeglass cleaner but just plain water instead. That warning may not be applicable to all LCD screens. I did use the eyeglass cleaner when I had a glass CRT monitor, and it worked very well. I took an extra bottle of the eyeglass cleaner, dumped it, and refilled with water and marked it for my computer LCD screen. I agree that the little spray bottles are very convenient. I would follow the Raymarine instructions to a "T".

Regarding the protective film.....
I purchased a similar item on eBay (operative word may be SIMILAR), and found that it did not reduce the glare or make it easier to see in sunlight. Air bubbles were a problem for me too. I removed it after a week. Your mileage may vary.

Eyeglass cleaner
perfectly ok. As long as it is the type that safe to use with anti-glare coatings. Wally World sells it by the gallon for about 4 bucks. Just kidding, It's a big bottle though. Oh!!! Don't forget to use a microfiber cleaning cloth. They are right beside the cleaner. Our company has been using it for about 3 years and we make LCD Screens. Fair Winds Cap'n Dave

coating, at least that is what happened to our Garmin plotter. Garmin repaired our protective coating under warranty. I now use only the factory approved cleaners, which most any drug store will carry. They are designated for use on protective coatings. I use the moistened wipes version. Terry
