Cleaning carpet head liner

Has anyone ever tried to clean the carpet-style head liner? If so, what did you use, how did you do it?

Mine has some staining that looks like it came from some leaking in the past.

I considered buying automotive carpet cleaner spray from the auto parts store...

So far, I've had a suggestion from another forum: Get a scraper and remove it, then paint everything. Because it will eventually get damp and mildew-y...

Not planning to do that, I rather like the coziness...

go rent a carpet shampooer and go to work on it.... if the shampooers work on upholstery and furniture, and they are made for carpets, it should work great for walls and ceilings also... 'specially if you have carpet hanging from them

make sure after you are done you get a fan blowing on it so it doesnt mildew before it has a chance to dry.

Be carfull of the carpet/upholstery steam cleaners because they can loosen the bond of the glue that holds it to the surface. You might end up with sagging material then. Don't ask how I know this...LOL

Striker, that's what I was afraid of. I think I'll try a can of automotive carpet cleaner at first, and see if that improves matters from a spot cleaning standpoint...
