Is there any special cleaner to use on acrylic, or will plain old Windex do the trick?

No Windex

Do not use glass cleaners - they contain abrasives. That's how they make glass shine. Plastics are much more susceptible to abrasives - even very fine ones than glass is. Use a product made for cleaning plastics - many also contain plasticizers which help to maintain the plastic and deter UV degradation.

..after a mild solution of soap and water. In addition to what Bill mentioned, the glass cleaners most often contain ammonia which will degrade the plastic quickly. Congrads on being smart enough to ask, unlike me who wrecked the plexiglass on my first boat. Rick D.

Check out Aurora products

They have a 2-part product specially made for that. Takes very little elbow grease and does a great job. Available at most marine stores.
