OK two days ago really but "I cleaned the bilge two days ago" didn't have the same ring.... Well, it was that time of year, time for the annual bilge clean, a job I really don't enjoy all that much. Until it's done! We purchased this boat last spring and it had been impeccably maintained to the highest, and cleanest, standards but being the OCD neat/boat freak that I am it was still not good enough, and it had to be "my" kind of clean. Plus it's been a LONG winter and I needed to re-kindle and spend some quality "boat time" with my girl.. Needless to say, while I had the sole out, I went to town, cleaning, scrubbing and yes polishing up the keel bolts. She's now ready for me to install the freshly re-finished cabin sole and new interior Ultrasuede cushions. NO MORE boat odor!! I must say she cleans up very well for a 29 year old 1979 vessel! The keel bolts CS used are clearly top quality and the gel-coated bilge, very nice feature, made cleaning a breeze!!! So what's your current project???? If you're interested in the process and products I used for cleaning the bilge see the post at "Related Link" bellow the picture: And believe it or not that is the original 29 year old gel coat!!

Yeesh

I am going to clean my bilge this week. It is NASTY!!!!! The old owners weren't much into cleaning the bilge (they did do a lot of other things). It needs a lot of work. I am not looking forward to it. I had my boat out of the water since last Wednesday. I have gotten a lot accomplished. New bottom paint (2 coats), new zinc, new graphics for the Hailing port. Been a good couple of days. GOing to splash tomorrow!

I wouldn't expect

anything less than absolutely spotless from you.... ;D you tend to take any small task to the 9th degree. Of course I'm waiting on your 5 page detailed instructional presentation on Pbase before I even tackle mine ;) 1979 CS...... I graduated high school 1978, Grade 13 (back when we still had 13 grades up here) no more than 2 miles where your boat was being made... go figure. *pop

You call that a bilge!

It has to be at least a foot deep and have an inch or more of water and a greasy looking bilge pump before it can be called a bilge. My galley sink isn't that clean! I wish that I was on my own computer then I could post a picture of a real bilge, also a 1979. You are a lucky guy.

You Bilge Cleaner

Mainesail~ I would assume you maintain Rich's P303 bilge in the same manner as yours. HEHEHE. Serenity would be impressed!

Are the washer-plates

Are the washer-plates factory? IT looks like you added some glass to make a level surface. Nice!

Brian the washer..

Brian the washer plates are factory and they actually ground away some glass to make the surface flatter. That's why some gelcoat is missing around the edges.. I'm guessing that the keel bolts were either 316 or Aquamet 22 considering the utter lack of corrosion for almost 30 year old keel bolts....

Not sure about the bilge

But I was aboard Rich's boat last weekend and it is in beautifull condition not unlike Maine's. Now I have 2 friends with pristine boats to measure up against.

Yup

They came in a couple of weeks ago and they look great. I know you are probably busy this weekend but you should try to at least meet us for dinner on Friday night. My brothers are a lot of fun.

Got a couple on both of you

Graduated in 75 and my back would not last for one pair of Mains Keel bolt routine..:(...I think my boat had a major oil spill at one time as there is a film of oil back up in every crack and crevice...It would be impossible to get it back to factory clean..I keep working on it but feel like just throwing in the towel seeing pictures like theas..;)

Gee! you young fellas are sounding older than I do after I tile

a kitchen floor. By my calculations Nice and Easy and I each have 20 years on you and I think Joe S. has 5 or 6 on us and we think that we are the younger generation. 15 Or 20 years from now I might concede a little to the calender but not yet. Thank you very much..;D

Only a couple at most

stillraing, if you graduated in 75, probably grade 12, I was in 10 so that's only 2 years. I hit 5 oh no, next year, so I'm right there behind you *pop I'm just starting to feel the "I did too much work on the weekend and it takes a few extra seconds to get up out of my chair" ........ but stop whining right? A little hard work is good for you !! ;)
