clean start

Okay, I've gotten to the sanitation system on my "new" 79 C38. So far I installed a rebuild kit on the Groco HF toilet, picked up a new macerator, a new 3-way valve (ouch!), removed and fully cleaned the poly tank, and removed all of the nasty old hose which I plan to replace. The system was not properly set up or functioning upon removal so I don't really have anything to go on for the re-installation. What I need is a clear diagram/instructions for setting the system up right. I want to be able to pump directly overboard, or into the tank which can be pumped overboard or pumped at a marina. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You don't need a diagram...

Diagrams are "one size fits all"...which rarely if ever fit one, much less all. Keep everything as straightforward as possible...from the tank to a y-valve--one side to the thru-hull, with a vented loop inline...the other side to the inlet fitting at or on the top of the tank. From the discharge fitting at the bottom of the tank, a line to another y-valve--one side to the deck pumpout fitting, the other side to a macerator or manual discharge pump...out of the pump to the the thru-hull, with another vented loop inline. I think you'll also find the link below useful in spec'ing out exactly how you want to do this. Or...you can forget reinstalling the tank altogether and go with a Lectra/San--CG certified Type I MSD that treats each flush and discharges it overboard...and is legal in all waters except those specifically designated "no discharge"...the nearest ones to you are the FL Keys and a few small areas on Hilton Head. I know what I'd do...
