Clean Bottom

Boat was splashed yesterday after being hauled for Irene. Had the yard powerwash the bottom, which had a lot of soft growth after being in the water for a year and a half (though no barnacles and prop zinc was >90%, prop was virtually clean using PropSpeed). Wow, what a difference! 1.5 - 2 knot speed increase in less than 10 knots apparent wind. What a difference a clean bottom makes. Beautiful day on the lower Bay today.

It's an outrageously overpriced two part coating that creates a surface so slick that growth won't stick to it. It does, however, go a long way and seems to last two seasons. There was a thread on it here a few days ago.

You know, you can hire a diver to clean your boat's bottom. No reason to sacrifice performance to a foul hull.

those of us who keep boats in water year round are well acquainted with underwaterworkers...they wilkl clean hull, comment on condition of thru hulls, prop, shaft, zincs, etc....very worthwhile folks to have around, especially when they are smart.

Yeah, I tried to find someone in the area, but not much success with word-of-mouth, and haven't seen anyone advertise. You need a full wet suit between June and October to prevent being stung by the local sea nettles.

just had mine cleaned--- hooyaahh.. what a difference-- slides away from dock reallly easily now---want it clean in case of dire need to leave a dock for a named storm. a local says we arent gonna have any this year--i dunno about that---we have watched many form and run to sea. also watched as lee grew in our back yard and slid over to gulf coast. we see what happens in that department. but a clean hull is good in case of need for boat relocation--lol wont go anywhere with fouled bottom and less far with fouled prop.

John- there is a diver that works in your area. His name is Mike Colbert and he has been cleaning my hull for 5 or six years now and does a good job for a decent price.
