What product is used for cleaning the topsides of dirt and smudges? Is it recommended to wax the topsides? if so, what product is recommended? Thanks in advance for responses. Bruce

wax on wax off

I like SeaPower for cleaning/waxing with another coat of carnuaba on high-use areas like the cockpit

Woody Wax

My boat was really dirty last year and I found "roll-off" really worked well. My boat is in a boat yard where coal dust blew on it and the brown tarps I used, stained it in places. The roll-off worked great. It does remove wax, however. I do plan to wax the deck after cleaning it this spring. I read about woody wax in practical sailor. It is for waxing the deck and non-skid surface. The idea is it makes it easier to keep the deck clean in the summer, so in theory, I can get the deck cleaner just by hosing and brushing during the season. It also is supposed to be easy to apply and helps traction. At least that is what I read in Practical Sailor. I hope it works.

Deck Cleaner and 3M Liquid Wax

I use Starbrite Boat Deck Cleaner that I get at Walmart and 3M Liquid Wax for the now skid areas in the deck and cockpit. I use "Soft Scrub with Bleach" in the green bottle for most stains and the original "Soft Scrub" for really tough stains. Mark

Second the vote for Starbrite Non Skid Deck Cleane

I would definitely second the vote for the Starbrite Non Skid Deck Cleaner. Without question, it is the best product I have found for tough dirt and stains (icluding spyder leave behinds). While I am not a West Marine basher, you definitely want to find this product at WalMart, as it generally runs about $6.00 a bottle there vs. almost $12 a bottle at West Marine. I have used the 3M wax several years, but am not impressed with the length of time it lasts. I just read the last issue of Practical Sailor and am going to try the Meguiar,s 50 One Step cleaner/wax in a couple of weeks.

3M Wax -- second try ;-)

My first post wasn't very clear. I use the 3M Wax on the SMOOTH areas of the deck and cockpit...NOT on the non-skid. I just clean the non-skid with Starbrite. Joe, I'm farther north than you so am sure I don't get the heat you get. The 3M Liquid Wax will last a year here in northern Missouri. I clean and wax each spring...just finish the deck and hull last Sunday afternoon. Mark
