Based on the Class Number that you list, your boat should be newer than 1973, and so should have a Hull I.D. Number molded into the outside of the transom. The HIN format will be XDYA3261Myym, or XDYA3261mmyy. If it reads like the first example, XDY = O'DAY, A = Widgeon, 3261 = Class#, M = model year format, yy = Model year (last 2 digits of year), and m = code letter for month in Model Year (A = August, B = Sept., C = Oct., etc. The model year ran Aug-July, and for example, 1976 models that would be Aug. 1975 to July 1976). Using the second format, XDYA3261 is same as above, mm = Month, yy = Year and would be Jan - Dec of year. I think O'Day used the Model Year Format from 1973 until at least 1983. If your boat is older than 1973 Model year, she should have 2 numbers engraved or stamped on a metal plate, a Hull# and a Class#, it is harder to determine the year on these boats although you can usually guess within a range of 2 years or so. The Hull# indicates total # of O'DAY Boats built, Class# refers to how many of that class. My Old Widgeon was a 1969 as far as I know and was Hull# 22698, Class # 1791.( in other words, the 22698th O'DAY Sailboat built and the 1791st Widgeon) O'Day seems to have built around 300-500 Widgeons each year.

I think 1971
I have a plate at top center inside the transom - Hull # 3261 - Class # 2556. I don't understand why the Hull # is so low, but the stamp is very clear... I'm guessing 1971. Thanks!
