We are spending a few nights on the boat, but the clanging inside the mast keeps us a wake, I know the halyards, and a electrical cable to the top of the mast run internally,is there any thing else that runs they the mast? I have righted up all halyards and electrical. This only happens when the boat rocks abut.

Run the halyards to your lifelines to get them off the mast

Your lines run inside, but they also run down outside the mast so you can raise the sail. Tie these outside the mast lines to places that are not near the mast. i.e. The lifeline stantion or a hard tie down so that the halyard is not near the mast.

I retrofitted my mast and ran the halyards inside the mast. Tying the outside halyards off the mast gave me a peaceful quite nights rest.

Yes there are other internal things running up the mast. The electrical lines often run up the mast inside conduit. The conduit is attached to the inside of the mast. If the conduit comes loose that could bang. Go up the mast checking the rivets. Find a loose one there maybe your issue.

Thanks for the reply's , and yes I always tie my halyards away from the mast with a bungy to the stays.

But I guess when the the mast is down I will have to take a peak inside the mast, cause it is very annoying .

i have rerun wires inside the mast that did not have conduit (C25): use short sections of pipe insulation to provide cushion, tying them to the wire bundle with zip ties. Keep the tail ends on the zip tie, which creates whiskers to keep the wires away from the id of the mast. 3 zip ties creates protection in every direction.

Duh, they end up outside, just like mine to pull up the sails.

My Hunter 26 does not have a conduit in the mast so the wires can really knock around. I'm guessing the 23.5 doesn't have a conduit either. When I had the mast down, I removed the mast base and I was able to push a sponge up in the mast until it was stopped by the spreaders. I used half of one of those big car washing sponges. That helped a lot but it still bangs a bit. You may be able to get used to the lesser noise, we did. The sponge doesn't affect the internal halyards at all, they just slide around it and the sponge doesn't exert enough pressure to bother them.

That doesn't work!!!!! I get tired of fixing lines like that in the mooring field so that don't have to listen to them. You have to take the lines off the sail and then attach away from the mast and tighten down.

That's not "clanging". that's the music that sings me to sleep. ;)

You may be able to adjust the amount of noise by the amount of tension on the halyards. Too loose and they bang a lot tighter and they may cause less noise.

Of course less rocking of the boat helps as well :)

The clanging is from the masthead light wiring. It is not run in conduit and I found it very annoying on my 23.5 as well. I removed the mast top plate and used foam pipe insulation to cover it down to the spreaders. I think I installed it from the bottom of the mast as well since I ran VHF cabling at the same time. In any case it silenced the clanging.

I think I have take the top off the mast and shove some foam or pipe insulation down.
and hopefully that will stop it.

Well I took the ends off , mast base and mast head. I drilled out the rivets, so it was easy to do.
There is no conduit running thru the mast, just mast head wiring , and the halyards.

I went and got a few lengths of foam pipe insulation and shoved it down the mast, so hopefully that solved the annoying clanging.
