Hi, I am putting this out for some thoughts from the group. I have a Hunter 33 sailboat. I just installed dinghy davits on it. The davits are through bolted to the hull at the base and clamped to the stern rail. I want to provide the davits with more support than just the stern rails. I plan to run stainless steel tubing from the top of each davit arm to the rear bow of my bimini and from there in segments to the next bow and then attached to the arch. The tubing running to the bows will be attached with 1" stainless steel hinged rail mounts. The issue I need help with is how to attach the last set of tubes to the arch. The arch is a 2" diameter stainless steel tube. I have some 2" wide stainless steel flat bar that is about 1/16" thick. My plan was to use this to make a strap that would go around the 2" tube with the ends projecting out a few inches. I would drill a hole through this and bolt the eye end of the tubing to this or would it be better to make it like a clamp where the strap goes completely around the 2" tube, meets, and the has two prongs sticking out with the hole drilled. Any thoughts, caveats, ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
