This really is a great forum. And its clear that while there is a wide range of sailing skill and tiller-time represented here, that SBO really does cater to the learning sailor. And that there is lots of world-class advice being given out here - Maine and Peggy come straight to mind.

I'd only ask that people always understand the difference between a fact, a theory, and opinion, and phase responses as such. And be willing to learn. Even it it means that you're sometimes wrong!

Phil, I so enjoy this forum and it sure helped 'calm my nerves' after purchasing a sailboat two weeks exactly to the day of making the decision to do so. My husband isn't much for forums but he appreciates this one as well. I'm always sending him links... The generosity of sharing of information and added camaraderie is much appreciated. Thanks for making this possible...and the reminder to "play nice". We should be ready to sail her by the end of the month.

Well said Phil. As a former dealer, I was asked to say which mfg. was terrible. I spoke only of the positive things about all manufacturers and surprisingly many appreciated that buying boats from me.

Thanks for maintaining this forum as a place for all of us to learn. Good advice is good advice. Sometimes stupidity needs to be pointed out, but it should always be done in a kind manner with suggestions on how to resolve the issues caused by these well intentioned mistakes. I know I have made a couple of doozies.

This is a great forum. It helped me get back into sailing after 10 years being out. I know I asked plenty of novice questions and have gotten sage and kindly advice each time. This forum has saved me thousands in boat costs. There is no better sailing forum on the net. I check out SA from time to time and I shudder at what I read.

Thanks Phil, your observations are on the mark. I was beginning to think I was getting too thin skinned for this forum. I come here to enjoy, not to watch others get criticized, or to be criticized for giving a correct answer that someone didn't like. I do enjoy the debates (not flames), between really experienced sailors and racers. I have learned a TON!

Count me among those seconding the bravos. Ditto the raves about Maine and Peggy.

I have to join the crowd of those who applaud the efforts of Phil. Thank you sir so much. In the short time I have been a member the help I have received has been invaluable. I have tried to always be civil in my replies to questions and if I'm not sure I make a point to either say so or not post a reply at all. Phil keep up the great work. And a big shout out to Peggy and Mainsail for the expert advice they so willingly impart to those of us that don't know. And Kermit, get a new screen saver dude!..( wink and a smile )

I want to add some other thoughts to my post #8.

Don't Rush to Judgement of other's Remarks or seemingly off topic comments!

Allow for typographical errors and what may appear to you, a random thought. Many times a comment may stimulate a side bar question of value to other people.

Civility is also being flexible and forgiving!

FWIW...

Jim...

It's kinda hard to be flexible and forgiving of people who log onto a forum asking for help with a problem...and receive a lot of help...but are never seen or heard from again, even to say thanks or never mind.
