Civility in the forum: PLEASE READ

I don't know if it's the election year, the weather, old age, or what, but I have noticed a trend recently toward harsh answers and a lack of civility here.

I want to make it very clear that this forum was founded on the concept of being safe for novice sailors. It is a forum for all questions. It is not a forum for criticising questions.

If you don't like a question or it is too "novice" for you, move on the next thread. No need to answer. If you feel the need to impose a higher level of knowledge or chastise new owners for asking "stupid" questions, you will be better served at Sailing Anarchy or Cruisers Forum. Here, you're going to have a bad time.

This is our reason being and it applies to users with a 1 post or 10,000 posts.

Now, that said, the moderators are not here 24/7. If you see behavior that is out of compliance with this basic tenet, please click the Report button at the bottom of the post. Don't fight back, don't lash out, just click Report. We'll handle it quickly.

To those of you who contribute awesome information every day and help people learn the joy that is sailing, thank you! To those of you new to sailing who are trying to figure out your boats and how to sail them, welcome! To those of you who are here to demonstrate your superiority... move along, there's nothing to see.

Well said fellas, Best forum I've ever discovered online,and extremely infomative to we newbs. Oddly, I actually have read the thread that inspired your responses. There's clearly a difference between some fun loving sarcasm, and outright rudeness, although that tends to be a thin line if the post is read incorrectly. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Phil! I joined this forum because I was so taken by the compassion and tenacity of the members. Most everyone genuinely wanted to help someone in need of information! Our world has changed before our eyes and as the story unfolds in Orlando we must all answer questions that involve hate and dealing with it. Hate has no place in our world. All we need is love.

Way to say it man.

I've have both been & was victimized once by the change in thread response attitude &
all I did was try to explain myself. We know who these folks are & maybe we can change their approach.

I've never attacked anyone on this site because of a difference in thought but,
I did deal with the consequences once. Hopefully because of this thread, this will NOW end.

Yea there's been a difference lately man from some but, I do hope all members
read this thread & re-think how their replies are read-n-perceived by fellow members.

Thanks Phil. I was brought up short in the past few hours by the change of tone in more than one thread. We definitely don't need another SA or CF here. I have never referred anyone to those sites, and I am thrilled to be able to send people to this forum on a daily basis.

When I first started posting, I saw myself answering in Absolutes and thus found I would SHUT DOWN the thread discussion.

I re-read what I write at least 3 times and try never to shutdown a Post by my "Mr. Know It All" comments.

Leave room for discussion and other points of view.

Also, when I blow it, I apologize and eat "humble pie". It tastes ok after a few beers

Part of the problem lies in "chatting" by text. I have been in private mail and phones calls with a few who are terrified about getting the "flame thrower" (his words). I suggested do it anyway. Did you ever notice how many post begin with "Hey I am a dummy or new!

There is never a stupid question!

People should read the entire thread before posting!

I have found that my post#12 said the same as Post#3 thus telling that poster he was ignored.
Lastly... (going to go drink beer)

Original Posters should respond back on the final solution.

BTW... I have laughed so hard at many who can say with humor, a good solution.

We are all friends in deed. ( except for @Kermit or @woodster )
