I'll explore for a few days before I round Brooks Peninsula.
There are so many great places to see. We manage to anchor in different places every time around. Must sees in Quatsino Sound include Pamphlet Cove ,Julian Cove and the Marble River. Fuel at Winter Harbour or Coal Harbour. Groceries at Port Alice. Have fun!

Choose your weather wisely when rounding Brooks Peninsula. Go well out into the ocean. The area has its own weather pattern. Due to the way this massive extends out into the Pacific, the typical NW breeze can become gale-force winds.

We left Hootla-Kootla for a quick trip up Sydney Inlet to Bottleneck Cove. A couple of sunny days here and we are on the move again. So far no smoke from forest fires.IMG_0706.jpeg IMG_0705.jpeg IMG_0704.jpeg IMG_0703.jpeg

August 14 we made are way to Bacchante Bay for the forecast rainy weather. Weatherman was right, lots of rain which I’m sure helped the fire situation on the island.

On the 17th we made our way though Sulphur Passage, checked out a couple of coves and ended up in Friendly Dolphin Cove. We would stop here again in a heartbeat.

Tonight we are in Ahousat, about ten miles from Tofino, hopefully drying out a bit. Pics later.

Ahousat was very good to us. They are in the midst of replacing docks so no power or water but they opened up one of the rental rooms for us to shower and the owner delivered a fresh salmon all cleaned and filleted to the boat. Really nice people.
He told me that this year is the best salmon fishing he’s seen in the 35 years he’s been here.

We left Ahousat in the sunshine, turned the corner at the end of the inlet and were in thick fog until Lennard Island just outside of Tofino. A little nerve racking in the fog amongst all the rocks then clear sunshine when the water gets deep and clear.

Tonight we are in Port Renfrew. That’s about 38 miles from Barkley. I didn’t realize that it was actually closer to Neah Bay in Washington (30 miles) than to Port Renfrew. Pacific Gateway Marina caters mostly to sports fishers but there are two real boats here tonight.

I wish I could tell you that a pleasant breeze will fill your sails and welcome you home.
But that would not recognize the nature of the Strait of Juan De Fuca. The Greek navigator after whom the strait was named still holds true to its nature of orneriness.

Looks like any breeze will be on the nose tomorrow and the next day, unless it is fickle and swings behind you like a zephyr.

Ride the tide past the Race Rocks and welcome home.

Woke up this morning to a NE wind in the harbour and decided to get an early start. Got out of Port Renfrew and the wind died. Motored to Sheringham Point then the easterly wind started to fill. It got strong enough to cause a few white caps but not for long. Ended up motoring the whole way.IMG_0743.jpeg The American Olympic Peninsula
