Aloha Kakou!
Just so everyone knows; I have been planning to produce a CD
containing the Vega Owners Repair and Maintenance Manual, originally
assembled by the members of VODCA and traditionally provided to new
members, and the archives of the AVA Newsletter that I have published
so far. That would be the six issues that I have already converted
to pdf format. Now that there is a possibliity that the older
archive of Sid's work can be made available as well I am very excited
at the possibility that these could be included. Problem is, my
scanner burned out about six months ago and my PC lacks a CDRW drive.
When I bought Lealea back in 1990 she came with a box of VODCA
Newsletters and the former owner encouraged me to contact Sid and
join VODCA, and that I did immediatly. When Laura came aboard I had
to make room and so the box of old paper newsletters had to go. I
only kept the one containing NIck and Jenny's "Preparing Your Vega
for Offshore Cruising". So if Adrian or Tom can scan the old archives
and burn a CD I want to be in line to buy a copy.
I met with our IS Manager this morning and it seems my time has
come. The company is replacing my PC with a new system in a few
weeks. I'll be getting a state-of-the-art Dell PC (1.5 Ghz Pentium
IV, 40GB hard drive, scanner, laser printer, CDRW, all the high zoot
stuff)(see Chuck wiping the drool off his shirt) What does this mean
to the VEGAtarian community? I will be able, finally to do something
about the high cost of producing and mailing the manual. I will be
able to convert it and edit and update it and put it on CD for new
members who so choose, thereby saving about $10 per copy!! I will
also be able to offer the newsletter on CD, IN FULL COLOR and save $
on postage and printing for those of you who elect to receive the CD
in lieu of paper.
Finally, I have a little surprise up my sleeve for subscribers that I
know you will all enjoy! Look for it beginning in Feb or March. I
am trying to get one more issue out before Christmas (Lord willin'
and the creek don't rise).Mele Kalikimaka!
