Well we took the plunge last fall and bought our first boat, a '84 Hunter 20. I spent the last few months fixing, cleaning up and otherwise refitting her. She'll be going into the shop for a new bottom job this weekend and then its time to christen her and put her in the water. Being as this is our first, I was looking for some advice on the proper etiquette for a christening. Although I am not superstitious, I want to start out on the right tack. Please send your ideas and share your stories. fair winds & smooth sailing, Chip-

Congrats on the

I assume since the boat is a 1984 you are renaming the boat. Be careful, woe befall the skipper who ignores the Gods of the Sea. You can check the archives on this site. There was a discussion of the proper procedure not long ago. Also check the link below. Have fun with the renaming ceremony and most of all enjoy your boat. Chuck S/V Kililani h31

Good for You!! This will be an adventure that

last's a lifetime. Love her like a wife, nurture her like your child and let her guide you as your parent would. We pretty much had a coming out party, rather than a christening with Speedy, the night we finshed her up and backed the truck up to the hitch. It was a darn good thing we could sleep aboard without the need of any motorized equipment. She damn near put us under that great big cabin table. Ray S/V Speedy PS. We reduced the size of the cabin table by about 25 % to prevent future episodes.

Christening and Launch

Good luck and good winds. I still remember our first boat and launch. Will last a life time, really nothing bad happened, just a great day. She is a Newport 17 and we still sail her. Have since bought a 96 hunter 23.5 that we love and weekend on the bay, but I am getting ready to sail the Newport on our local lake the end of this month Mike S/v Sail la vie H23.5 s/v XCITATION Newport 17

Congradulations. Getting my kids started in sailing may have been the best thin I could ever do for them. And to let go when they were ready to take her out all on thier own. Great Sailing
