Chilly day for the Etchels in Miami

Some Etchels races went off in Biscayne Bay this morning. During the first leg of the first race, the breeze was blowing 17-24 and the air temperature was around 50F. It was a bit cool for the sandal-footed Dade locals, but they did manage to get in 3 races before their scheduled curfew.

Fins were racing up here in Palm Beach this weekend too. The South Florida winter regatta season is well underway.

Love that boat. Never had the chance to sail one although they had a good fleet up here in Narragansett Bay back in the day. I was in Ensigns at the time and always admired the Etchels.

What is the span of the South Florida Winter Regatta season?

The months when it is too cold to sail comfortably in other parts of the US.

The heaviest portion of it is December through February. We get a lot of big races down here at that time.

Etchells is a great boat and fun to sail. Had hull 35 that was built by Skip Etchells. Very sensitive to tuning to be competitive
