Hello, I have a hunter 34 and 2 year old girl. I am going to make the vee-berth her crib. Has anyone done this or have any ideas on how to put up a "gate" to block it off? Thanks

Congrats

Not many of us could afford a H340 when our kids were 2. Have you considered sticking the crew in the stern cabin? It is easier to shut off, or you could leave open b/c she won't have far to fall.

Pillows

We bought a 356 with a 3 and 5 year old three years ago. We've only had one fall from the v-berth. Pillows on the deck soften the fall. We have them sleep with feet toward the bow. They love the v-berth and can turn it into a fort in under 5 minutes. We've been out in all kinds of weather with no problems with the kids. Our biggest injury to date happened tied to the slip. Our youngest, at 4, was standing in the cockpit with her arms pulled inside her shirt, fell and broke her collar bone.

Terrible 2 = Monkey

We took our 2.5 out on a 33.6 last summer and learned she was actually a monkey. There is so much to climb on a boat (companionway, berths, settees. Since blocking all of this off is pretty impossble, we decided to just make it easier and safer. First, we dropped the table down to the settees and made a BIG pit couch. Plenty of room to play. The 34 does this also, I think. We put a cooler next to the Vee berth to make it easier to climb up and down. There wasn't room for it to slide so it made a good step. To keep her in the vee at night, we stacked up pillows and blankets along the edge. The 336 was a chartered boat so we couldn't do any modifications. If it was mine, I would have put up a cargo net across the edge like the kind you see for car trunks and pickup trucks. I'm still working on my "boat kids" book. If you come up with ideas, post them here. Mark

Child Proof V-Berth

On our 376 we took life line netting and with a small pulley system and bungee cord to keep it tight made the V-berth a complete play pen. We can lower the net for adults, but for kids less than 2 1/2, there is no escape:) At 2 1/2 our son climbs over, but could never roll out.
