Back to the Bay IV ------------------ This summer, June 19- 22, Hunter owners from the mid-Atlantic region will converge on Zahniser’s Yachting Center in Solomons, MD for their bi-annual rendezvous. This year’s event will be sponsored by Hunter Marine and their Chesapeake Bay dealers, Tidewater Marina of Havre de Grace and Annapolis, MD and Norton’s Yacht Sales of Deltaville, VA. This multiple-Hunter Sailing Association and Multiple-dealer collaboration is expecting 300 attendees and over 100 boats home ported from Pennsylvania to Florida. This year, we are fortunate to have as our Keynote Speaker, Gary Jobson, the author of numerous sailing books and ESPN’s sailing commentator. Other speakers will include Peggie Hall, the “Head Mistress”, the defacto authority on everything to do with marine sanitation devices. The seminars will be of interest to all sailors not just Hunter-owners. Participants will also have the opportunity to talk with factory representatives. A highlight of the rendezvous will be the Hunter Cup Race, a non-spinnaker fun “pursuit start” race. A Captain’s meeting held on Saturday morning before the race will explain the racing rules and provide valuable tips to novice racers. Attendees will also be able to tour the Calvert Marine Museum, join the blindfolded dinghy race, dance the night away, or just kick back and socialize with fellow Hunter owners. Children can join in the fun and games planned especially for them. There will be plenty of food and drinks. Each boat will receive a “Captain’s Bag” packed with freebies and a chance to win a valuable door prize. In addition, each participant will receive a “Back to the Bay IV” Tee-shirt. Hunter owners in the Chesapeake Bay area are encouraged to join one of the local clubs. Hunter Sailing Association Station #1 (HSA1), Hunter’s original club, focuses on the middle and southern bay and is the largest of the owners’ clubs. A sister club, Northern Star Hunter Sailing Association, attracts members from the northern third of the bay. These clubs promote racing, good sportsmanship, educational activities, technical support between owners, as well as camaraderie amongst the owners. This Hunter sponsored event is the largest of the national Hunter rendezvous.
