We hope to charter a 35-37 foot sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay in September, 2020.

What charter companies do you recommend?

What do you know about Haven Charters on the east shore in Rock Hall, MD?

Thank you for your help!

You might want to check around Deltaville Va. There are at least a couple of sources there.

David in Sandusky. Perhaps Annapolis would provide a charter company. They have the boats.

We keep our boat at Haven Harbour which is very nice. We have also chartered from Dave and Jacki over a five plus year period and have always had a good experience. They have a good range of boats to charter that are clean and maintained. Should you get some bad weather days Swan creek is right there to anchor out. Sea nettles are rarely seen. The town is small but close by and has several great restaurants with one right in the marina called passages. Pm me if you need any more info.

Thanks to all for the humor and advice!

Sounds like Haven gets the nod.

Checked Annapolis first. The boats available there are all too large (over 40 feet) or too expensive (over $3,000 per week) for the four of us.

Try Hartge's in Galesville. We have chartered from them a few times. Also I grew up there.

Unfortunately, $3,000 or more per week for charter of a mid-sized yacht could be about what it costs generally. Our 34-ft charter in the PNW in September listed for $3100 per week. But other charges creep in, chiefly insurance and sales tax. By the time we picked up the boat the invoice came to $3956.:what:

So. I just looked at Haven’s fleet. Their rates appear reasonable. Many 7-day rates there list at less than $3,000.

I used Haven. They’re good. Others in Oxford too. Get a copy of Cruising Guide to Chesapeake. Great to figure out itin.

Also check Sail Solomons on Solomons Island at the mouth of the Patuxent River. Much closer to BWI. I have chartered their Beneteau 323 (and taken ASA courses from them). Their fleet is small compared to Haven but their boats are exceptionally well maintained. Our sailing club has had good experience chartering from Haven.

With good recommendations, reasonable prices, and a decent fleet, we are going with Haven.

Thanks for all your help!
