The throttle on my 33 cherubini goes back to accelerate and forward to slow down. All other throttles on my sailboats have gone forward to increase power and backwards to reduce power. Is this the normal set up on the l980 33 Cherubini or has the linkage somehow been reversed?

The linkage connection at the engine is some how installed backwards. Check the throttle linkage at the engine and change it so that the throttle lever at the wheel moves in the proper forward direction. The set up currently on the boat is dangerous.
