I was looking at the post on dressing up the chart table with a inlayed compass rose. (very nice job incidently) and remembered that I started a Marquettry picture of a Hunter 37C years ago....might just pick up the ball and finish it :), which got me thinking of what also might look good besides the compass rose. I then remembered a "Cherubini/ Hunter" logo I had designed and actully had 2 seat back cushions made with the emblem embroidered on it. Thought it was a cool idea and offered to make cushions for anyone interested....maybe put the logo on tee shirts, jackets etc, for those of us who are kinda proud of our Cherubini Hunters. Unfortunetly, John Cherubini's son saw the post and got upset....wanted to make his own and market it for profit. Well it's been some 8 years and John Jr has not followed up. as the fleet of Cherubini Hunters dwindles with passing of time. I'm not interested in making jackets or anything for that matter, but I'll show you folks a picture and let anyone interested take it from there.:

I remember that. If I ever get around to reupholstering the salon that would look great on the seat backs. So are you going to do the inlay with that?

My thoughts are, please don't create any Cherubini boat chotskies without John Cherubini II's , and any brothers/sisters consent. His Dad is no longer with us, even though some of us might think making boat cushions or other items that keep his name going could only be a seen as a compliment, we really have no way of knowing his feelings on the subject. I think we ought to defer to his son's wishes and not just assume some self imposed grace period. Just because John C II won't embrace the idea of John Cherubini branding and merchandising and/or doesn't see much potential reward for enduring the hassle of licensing and marketing his Dad's name, to me doesn't make it ok even if legally JC doesn't/can't stop it. The trademark owners of Sparkman & Stephens I'm sure wouldn't allow some random group of old Catalina owners designing their own S&S logo and bootlegging chotskies, so why should a designer who we respect and admire get treated differently just because he was a much smaller scale designer?

OK, No "CHOTSKIES". Mr. Hunter, it was never my intention to market anything, nor make anything in quantities. As you see, I made a cushion for myself. Made a second for a friend. Now I might make the same emblem as an inlay for a wooden chart table. I understand your position and sentiment and for the most part, agree....which is why I walked away from the concept 8 years ago. On the other hand I think if someone wants to make a cushion or table inlay for themselves, that's their prerogative.....which is why I brought it up in the first place.

I am interested.
Can you
do it on Sunbrella material?
I get uptight myself, because I tried to alert fellow boat owners about a boat yard with lots of salvage boat that were wrecked during Ike (mine was such a casulaty, but does not come from there)
I am NOT looking for profit, and some of these are genuine Hunter sailboats
I thought it would be kind to inform people, but NO !
My posting was removed, no doubt to allow some body else to make the profit
I dressed up my entire boat with parts from there: stern rail, teak hand rails, winches, rudder, spreaders, cables (lucky to have found one just like mine) and port lights, etc
It is worth almost a pilgrimage to Houston to scavange
I don't see why one should not advertise such a good thing
Thank God the people on this forum are less selfish and are willing to help, as I am
Sam Lust, if you see this, I found a nice control panel for your boat!
Price? Free ; just pay the freight
I have 2, can send pictures and you choose

Love the logo. Being the senior H37 owner in terms of ownership (32 years), I vote for you making it available under whatever terms you see fit. I would love to have it on tee shirts for my crew for the next Mexico race Apr 2011. This is America. if its not copywrited, you can do what you want. John Cheribuni drew great boats. This would only enhance his legacy.

Have you seen other control panels

jorgefife

Have you seen any Hunter 30 control panels in your travels through the hurt boats yards? I have a 1979 Hunter 30 with a Yanmar panel that has seen better days. I can't get a replacement. They went out of production awhile ago. I don't see any at the swap or old parts shoppes. I would be interested in something if you found it.

Interesting point about copyright Blaise. Would the line drawing be protected? I have a big 'ol handicap van with a spare and cover on the back. Either the logo or the line drawing would look good back there.

Hey Ed S.

If you are going to put that on your spare tire cover, at least use the correct drawing for our pre-84 boats...but dang, yours is shaol draft too...hang on - try this ( I had to turn it on its side to fit the upload limitations, but you can tip it upright):)

That's still an '84 Jim, climbing a Lake Erie wave. Can tell from the pulpit/pushpit and the cockpit coaming. But you did cut off the keel for me, thanks.
