Just purchased a refurbished 82 Hunter 33 from Brad James-- who did an outstanding job bringing her back up to standards. While exploring through the boat, tracing the wiring and trying figure out what's what, came across three thru-hull sensors-- two on the starboard side and one on the port side, located in the aft storage area under each of the main cabin seats. Anyone know what they might be? Am assuuming one is for speed and another for depth (and the 3rd???). . . although I'm a little curious why they aren't closer to the keel and more forward. Was there a "standard" electronics package with the Cherubini design? Where would the gauges have been placed? What company supplied the gauges and is there a way to retrofit to the current wiring, or do I need to put new ones in?

Transducer Locations

Welcome to the club! Electronics were and still are for the most part dealer or owner chosen and installed. Installation in the aft settee lockers was undoubtedly an expedient that allowed shorter wire runs but provided lousy locations for sensors/transducers. Far from the centerline of the boat. Angles too steep for the depth transducer to work properly on one tack. The original instruments on my 33 were SR Mariner analog units. Moderate price, not much accuracy. I have since installed Horizon instruments. The speed wheel is now in the starboard forward settee locker, closer to the centerline than the original. Depth transducer is under the two drawer cabinet at the forward end of the port settee. Yes, I had to cut holes in cabinetry and the liner to get to the hull there, but it is forward and close to the centerline. I'm currently filling the 2" holes left by the old transducers with epoxy and glass. As to the questions: Replace the instruments with anything that looks interesting and put the transducers in proper locations. You'll be glad you did. samlust@monmouth.com

S R Mariner

If you want to contact S R Mariner Call 1 800 654 6363. This is the type of speed and depth instrumentation that came wirh my 33. These are good people to work with and the units are fairly inexpensive

H33 Electronics package

My 1980 H33 has the original instruments by Datamarine: knotmeter, knot log, and depthsounder. The depthsounder transducer is located on the port side under the main setee near the sink drain. The knotmeter transducer is located in the bilge and sticks out the starboard side of the sump. The knot log is daisy chained off the knotmeter and uses the same transducer.
