Cherubini curtain track?

I thought making curtains would be a good first project on my new sewing machine.....never used one before :) Can someone tell me what kind of curtain hooks are used to fit into the tiny slot on the track above the portlights? The boat came with no clips or hooks. I didn't see anything in the store here either.

I did. Have no idea what I am looking for. Was hoping for a description here from someone with a Cherubini. What I seen, nothing they have would work.

I still have the track and the slides on my 1980 Cherubini Hunter. I'll be at my boat tomorrow and will take a closeup pic of a slide. Maybe that would help you track down something that will work.

Did This Project Last Year...

Camping World (yes, the RV people) have curtain track.

I purchased new "track" it comes in 72" lengths. I removed the old track and installed the new track using white "pop" rivits.

They also have the "sew-on" "clips" that go on the curtain. It comes in a roll. You simply sew one long peice of clear plastic to the top and bottom of the curtain. Once that is done you "snap" it onto the track.

I used white canvas for the curtains. Gives the boat a nautical look. WHO KNEW!

The canvas was a drop cloth from Home Depot. Cost about $ 12.00.

The whole project was less than $ 100.00.

Thanks for this tip which I will certainly remember.

This because although my OEM tracks are still functional, I have noticed that plastic is yellowed and brittle. Certainly they won't stand any abuse in the future. Further, the "pop-out" inserts at each end of some of the tracks are missing. So I can't simply "swipe" to open/close the curtains without risking that some of the slides will just keep on going ...

My PO (or more likely his more creative other) sewed new curtain fabric onto the slides. Their fabric choice was very good for a match to the interior upholstery which was also new. So I am doing my best not to break my tracks.

Kito, you also might check the condition of your tracks. Could be best to replace the tracks at the same time as sewing in new slides.

But I still will post tomorrow the pic I promised.

Kito: Picture of a curtain slide attached. Essentially they are nothing more that a type of "piping" cut into say 1/2" lengths. The tab part is sewn onto the curtain fabric. Sort of a miniature version of luff tape on the luff of a roller furling jib. The pipe diameter is about 1/8" before the fabric is wrapped around it. It's quite possible that sewing stores might have something that would work. Probably you would need bring a track from your boat when you go shopping to check the fit.

Well I'll be darn. That's exactly what it is......miniature luff tape tabs sewn onto the curtain. Thanks a ton Rardi. Makes my easy first sewing project a little more difficult though :)

Catlina Direct stocks the curtian slides used on our 37C. Part #Z2352 Curtian Track slide with sew on flag .50 ea.

Those tracks are not likely OEM equipment. I was going to suggest Camping World but saw that someone else already did. CW is not usually cheap, but it is cheaper than WM.

Hunter 30 Curtain Track question

Hi Kito - did you find a solution for your curtain track connections. If not, let me know. I have the exact same boat ('70 Hunter 30) as you and will be happy to take pics of the way mine is set up if you still need.

Kito, the original track is a small diameter, square runner with a small slit in the inner facing. The slides on the curtains were small cigar shaped, plastic torpedos, sewn/bonded into a fabric tape, which was sewn to the curtain fabric.
I would love to find that tape as well, as I don't wanna re-invent the wheel for new curtains. I may have to, though, if the original tape (already re-used once) falls apart.

I bought this sewn on tab tape at Sailrite http://www.sailrite.com/Sew-on-Tab-Tape. I also bought some new vinyl track that will fit for the ports that the track was broken. You are right, the old track slot looks a bit smaller than the track Sailrite sells. I figure I can file down each tab on the new tape to fit the smaller groove on the old track. The tabs are only plastic and can be modified to fit fairly easily. I haven't tried to see if it will fit as is........it very well may. I will let you know.

For those interested, I just installed one curtain with the Sailrite tab tape and it does indeed fit into the original Hunter track.
