My GF and I are purchasing a 1980 Hunter Cherubini 37 on Lake Superior. What should I look for and look-out (be warned) for. I have recently owned Hunter 40.5 and 34. Did much of my own maintainence, farmed some out too. Recieved much valuable info from sailboatowners.com big boat forum. Looking forward to renewed conversations.

A lot has been written here about things to watch for when buying a Hunter 37 Cutter. If you use the Search tab in the page header and type "problems" and then choose "Hunter" and then "37 Cutter" from the pull down menus, you should find lots to read. Any problems tend to be typical age-related things such as leaking ports, wet rudders, moisture intrusion into the deck core, etc. These boats are pretty solidly built for their price point. If you have any specific areas of concern, feel free to ask away in this forum. Some of us have probably seen it all.

If you don't get a survey there could be problems that will eat your lunch. My 37C had a previous owner who put a bundle into tankage (diesel), steering and the engine before being transferred overseas and selling the boat for less than he paid for it. I then had to do a whole lot of stuff as well, rotted out holding tank, corroded mast step etc. I figure I got a bargain but the owner before me, who only had the boat about 6 months took a bath.

I have had her for 15 years now and am very happy. Looking forward to retiring on board for a few years.
