I have noticed a few comments about using a flashlight to check the fuel level in boats like our Hunter 31 that lack a fuel gage. I found that using a "Stud Finder" is an easy solution, especially when the tank is old and stained. It works for water level also if there was ever a need. Inexpensive ones are available at "Big Lots" or other discount stores.

Whatever Works, Works...

I have always mistrusted fuel gauges on my boats. I suppose some were more accurate than others. As a result, I long ago adopted the idea of figuring out my fuel consumption rate for my particular engine, filling the fuel tank, logging engine hours, and figuring how much fuel I've used -- and how much remains in the tank. This system will never let you down, and it helps in giving you a better picture of how your engine is running and when to do routine maintenance.
