You're Nuts,

and I wish I could go with you! Thats going to be a rough, long sail, but it looks like you have a great boat for it. I wish you fair winds and God's speed.

Sheeze Mark!

What's the big deal?! I don't get it? It's the best part of Summer down there right now. And at that latitude, it won't even get dark! For a real challenge, do the race in six months! ;)

Well Fred

I'm not sure if you have sailed the Southern Ocean but I can say that even at this time of the year it is pretty tough and rough. You know I sail with people from all over the world and every single one of them has said they have never seen swells as big as we get down here. Fred with absolute respect perhaps if this event appears to be a walk in the park could I suggest that you come on down here and have a go yourself. We would welcome you with open arms however there are very strong rules with respect to who can and can't do this and mostly it's about just how much experiance one has in this type of ocean sailing. The quality of the yacht comes next and on it goes..

And I forgot mention

That what is going to start happening on Saterday is an attempt to set a race time that others will chase in the future so obviously the race is at this time of the year for it presents the best window of opportunity to sail as fast as the conditions will allow..

Hi Mark! Sorry! I missed your posts.

I hope you know that my post was in jest, Right? Sometimes, even with the little face winking, cultures can be just different enough to miss the meaning. I WAS KIDDING! There. Now we won't start a war. ;) And to sail those waters,,,NO THANK YOU. I'm retired from the big stuff. Hell, I'm retired from anything but a millpond! But one of our magazines (Cruising World) that came yesterday, has a story about NW Australia. Now THAT is what I've wanted to do/visit since the '80's. Drool.

He is on his way

Fedor left the dock in Albany at 9.00 yesterday morning. His son, Oscar, John Sanders and myself sailed out with Fedor to the start line to assist in getting the sails up. The main took over forty minutes to grind up. Once that was done a RID came alongside and took us off the yacht and a few minutes later the canon fired..The start of an amazing adventure.. You all can follow Fedors progress using the link and if you click on Fedors own web site you can see exactly where he is in the world John Sanders?? Google him to find out what he has achieved in the world of sailing.

Have fun!

Racing is overrated in my book. But if that is what one likes, have to it. Just be careful and remember that there is someone waiting for when one returns.
