A funny thing happened on the way to the forum......
Actually not so funny. Last week moved my boat from NJ to Rhode Island. Left on weds 6 am with a bit of ice in the deck. Later that day in the Long Island sound, the cotter pin fell out of the Clevis pin holding the furler to the bow fitting. That was followed by the Clevis pin and then the furler with forestay became detached as sail was unrolling.
I had not touched the forestay since my boat yard 's rigger had done some work on the rig last summer after the Marion Bermuda race. I suspect the forestay was detached to put us in the travel lift last fall and the worker failed to spread the cotter pin.
My fault for not double checking that.
Fortunately did not lose the rig. Turned down wind, lowered main, attached Solent stay. Put in and made repair.
