I'm new sailor looking for alternative to West Marine. I'm sure there are internet marine suppliers. Can you recommend one or two that has good prices and service?

I use Rudy at D&R MARINE http://www.drmarine.com , primarily because he caries O'day specific parts but he has tons of other parts and is pretty competitive.

I shop a lot of internet retailers but you will not find better customer service right here. And their prices are pretty damn good too!

I find that West marine prices are higher on about 8 out of 10 items I compare, the ONLY thing WM is good for is convienence when your on a project and need an item NOW and a store is nearby.

Try the Sailors Exhcange in St. Augustine Fla. or Surplus Unlimited in Daytona, they are surplus and salvage yards. They have EVERYTHING you can think of.

Yup, that's the deal. Boaters World was the same way, though they had less useful stuff there as far as I was concerned. Online shopping is the best way to get what you want at the best price, but you have to wait for it. I think WM will price match like someone else said, perhaps in another post, but make sure you print out the price with shipping and any other costs.

Also, it depends what you are looking for. There are several places that you can get individual supplies, but it's not as convenient. I needed marine hoses and bought very high quality ones from Hampton Rubber, who supplies the coast guard and the shipbuilding yard here.
