I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Just wanted to tell everyone of a cheap trick that I have been using in my last two boats. I have been buying king sized eggshell crate mattresses (from Wal-mart, Belk, etc.) and cutting them to fit the V-birth. It adds a lot of comfort to the V-birth. The last one I bought was really nice and had memory foam on it. It makes a huge difference when I set it on top of my cushions. I then take King sized fitted sheets and put it over the foam and the cushions. So for around $60 you can make a big difference in comfort in your sleeping quarters.

Comfortable bed

We did that this last summer and what a huge difference. It made the admiral much happier about sleeping on board. Rob Morton S/V Euphoria

I think the egg crate foam helps dry the foam

underneath, too. We use a closed cell foam topper with an egg crate on top of that. the glass under the bottom foam is never clammy or damp, as it was before we put the closed cell layer on.

thanks for the advice! I have been trying to think of something wonderful to do to the vbirth. I am currently remoddeling my od25, extending the v birth aft over the head to increase the "play room" and your advice sounds right on. Do you alter the fitted sheets to fit the v or just tuck it all under? thanks

We just tuck the sheets under, but if

if you have the time and energy I think they would stay put better if you trimmed and hemmed or at least gathered them at the narrow end. I think it was Red Green (Canadian content here) who described the way his wife pulled the sheets over as a "human ratchet wrench". Of course my darling would never do that, and I'm sure your's wouldn't either, so maybe just tuck them in.

Hrmmm....$60 or $265.....

That spring system looks nice.....but I will stay with my memory foam egg-crate mattress. I imagine that the spring system is comfortable, but the foam system is very comfortable and I think that I will keep the extra $200 and throw that into the outboard fund for my dinghy.

Get at least 4 lbs memory foam

Check out the Serta 4 lbs for just a little more. You'll be glad you did. http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=CATLIST&PRO_SUB_CAT=240&PRO_SSUB_CAT=2795&cid=61372&kid=2000027928&fp=f
