The 240 is a very nice boat but there is something that I don´t like - the smallest wave makes a terrible noice when hitting the transom and sometimes makes it impossible to sleep. The commersially produced silencers costs a lot of money but this summer I made my own; a worn out foam sleeping pad with closed cells completed with two ropes and a slit for the rudder. One need a boat hook to puch it under the transom but it works. My wife was in bed when we tried it for the first time and she was very happy when I got back inside. I will put the picture on the photo forums 240 side as well. Good night and sweet dreams!

More innovative ideas, thanks

My 240 has benefited from many of your very ingenious posts. Especially like the photos. Keep them coming. Michael

Going to try swim noodles

Looks good for a slap silencer. I read somewhere about using a couple of swim noodles tied together under the stern as a slap silencer. I've got three I bought for 99 cents each. All I need is the time to tie them up and try them out. I'll let y'all know how they work. Marc_B

Fenders

A desperate night some years ago we tried to use our fenders as wavebreakers but it didn´t work at all, we had to move the boat.

Closed Cells?

"a worn out foam sleeping pad with closed cells" What do you mean by closed cells?

Closed cells

Open-celled foam is like a household cleaning sponge that soaks up water and can be squeezed out. Closed-cell foam is relatively solid. The air bubbles are trapped inside and you can't compress it very much. Some roll-up camping sleep pads are closed cell, as are some beach and pool floating matresses that are not the inflatable type. Per used an old sleeping pad. The link below to the slap silencer sold on this site also uses some closed-cell foam. ...RickM...
