Are there many Cal 33 owners?

Tony I'd be interested in if there really are many Cal 33 owners. I've searched through the internet and found very few.

Cal 33

I don't know how many Cal 33 owners there are. But I'm trying to find out as much information about this brand and year (1986) as possible: Is it a reliable boat? What repairs are quite common/needed? Are replacement parts easy to find/affordable? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays, Tony

Tony, if you don't get sufficient response here, send me an email address offline by going to the MacGregor owners list and searching for boat name Lyra. Many Cal owners use email rings.

Many Cal's in Boston

Tony there are many Cal 33's in Boston harbor near Rowes wharf at the Boston harbor sailing club. I think they have seven of them. I live about 30 minutes from downtown and keep my 1988 Cal 33 in boston, cape cod, and newport. Ask me any specific question and I'll do my best to answer. The Cal 33 is a great boat, fast but comfortable, few minor problems but overall I've been very pleased with the performance, and she's held up in some severe New England weather.

Cal 33

Hi William, I'm going to look at a Cal 33 tomorrow, and just looking for any pointers on what to lookout for. If we we do move forward with this vessel we will be getting a surveyor. We've been looking for a nice boat for about 8 months. Thanks for your help and the photo. Tony

Check the portholes

Check the portholes for water leakage, they tend to leave water sitting because of the angle of the windows. Off-season they should be taped or covered, during the season they should be shut very tight. Even a small drip can cause the wood shelves underneath to warp. Look inside the shelf for water damage. E-mail me at brossi@verizon.net I have a few more things to be aware of.

Cal 33

Hi John, I guess I'm not a good detective in finding your e-mail. You can e-mail me at acoutlis@hotmail.com at your convenience. I want to let you and William know that I saw the Cal 33 today, and she looks to be in excellant condition. Though her deck was covered with a tarp, I didn't see any signs of leakage, and the original owner states that she has no leaks, and said that all she needs is to have her bottom painted. 542 hrs on engine, Loran Radar, Magellan GPS, Auto Pilot, Head was never used, Macerator, Teak & Holly Sole, Harkin Roller Furling, original sails... Her asking price is $42,900. What do you think? Thank you both for your help. Best regards, Tony
