Hi! I need to update my charts for my raymarine axiom. I’m on Lake Michigan and wondering what everyone is liking these days. Lighthouse? Navionics? Or????
TIA!

The basic data for all charts is the hydrographic data supplied by the respective countries charting organization, which in the US is NOAA. The different vendors take this information and package it different formats with different features and overlays, such as photos, Waterway Guide or Active Captain notes, hot fishing spots, etc.

The choice of charts is really a personal and budgetary decision. Take a look at the chart providers website and see what features each offer, when the chart area you are interested and when it was last updated.

For home use and planning, OpenCPN and NOAAs ENC charts work well and is quite affordable, free.

Navionics went up in price, but they are still my preferred because of the user depth sounder data. In my neck of the woods, NOAA surveys are pitifully incomplete, and non-existent for COE lakes. The user depth sounder data is extremely useful for a 10" draft trailer cruiser. Your mileage may vary.

I use Navionics and TZ iBoat. Both are great in their own ways and worth having. The birds-eye chart view is fantastic on TZ and the user contributed data is fabulous with Navionics.

Hello,

The original poster is looking for charts for a Raymarine Axiom chart plotter. This means a chart that comes on an SD memory chip.

Charting programs that run on a PC, IPad or other device will not work on a Raymarine Axiom plotter.

I use Navionics chart chips on my plotter (which happens to be a B&G Zeus, but that's not relevant). I'm happy with Navionics but my sailing is in the Long Island sound and surrounding areas.

Good luck,
Barry
