The used Raymarine Chartplotter I just bought is not powering on. it has the same connector as the old Garmin. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hello I just purchased a used Raymarine Chartplotter RC 435i to replace an old Garmin unit. The plugs are identical. The newer unit won't power on. I know the plug works because it powers up the old Garmin. Do I need a Raymarine connector? Where can I find one?

The plug may fit, but the wiring configuration is different. The owners' manuals will have an illustration or chart to show color and pin location of each wire lead. Of course, you could try to find a Raymarine power/data plug.... that's what I'd look for first.

Got to make sure you have power at the plug first. If not, check voltage at DC breaker panel. If there is power at the breaker and no power at plug, check wiring from breaker to plug. Perhaps there is a 5 amp in line fuse somewhere in the circuit that may be blown. Finally, even though the plug may appear similar, the internal wiring configuration may be different and not compatible with the Raymarine plotter.

Do you have the power/NEMA cable for this unit, part #R38024, as it might be manufacturer and model specific? Pages 17-18 in the attached manual describe the rear chart plotter pin number, function and cable color. Hope that helps.

Just because the plug fits does not mean the wiring is the same.
you will need a wiring diagram to be sure the the order of the plugs (with wires attached) are the same.
If the sequence of the wires are the same, then a possibility is the Used unit may not be in a working condition.
First confirm the wires on both ends of your Garmin Plug are sending voltages to the correct pins on the Raymarine Chart plotter.

I've merged your two threads together.

If you haven't installed it yet, and it sounds like you did, you could use a regular 12v battery and make the connections to test if it powers up. But I agree with the guy above. Do you have the manual? if not can you get on from on-line. If not, I would look for different Charplotter manuals from Raymarine and see if there is a difference in wiring,

added - I looked at both manuals and PIN 1 is +12dc and PIN 2 is -12dc. So those two pins are the same. However, pins 3-8 are different. It is possible that an internal fuse on the Raymarine is faulty, or the unit does not work.

And verify the actual pin number.
Oh Boy... Requires sharp clear eyesight, perhaps a magnifier, and steady hands... Even then (in the old days) I would slip and tag the wrong pin. Opps... Where is that bin of replacement tubes....

there is power at the plug my old Chartplotter powers up. I can't seem to find the original plug anywhere. Part number r69074 / r38024.

One last idea, we had turned down the backlight on our chart plotter once and thought the unit was toast. Once we turned up the lighting, all was good.

The cable is likely discontinued.so you might check with Raymarine on a substitute cable OR purchase a used one from one of the links below. Please let us know where you sourced one and if it worked.

added - I looked at both manuals and PIN 1 is +12dc and PIN 2 is -12dc.
I assume that should read PIN 1 is +12dc and PIN 2 is gnd, otherwise we have a 24VDC potential difference across the pins.

added - I looked at both manuals and PIN 1 is +12dc and PIN 2 is -12dc. So those two pins are the same. However, pins 3-8 are different. It is possible that an internal fuse on the Raymarine is faulty, or the unit does not work.
What am I missing here? It seems he has the cable that he needs. If the old Garmin connector fits the RM chartplotter and the wires to PIN 1 and PIN 2 are the power carrying wires then simply match and connect the wires that feed PINS 3 - 8 to the inputs that the Raymarine chartplotter calls for. Negate the colours of the wires.
