Chartplotter/Autopilot

I am picking up a Raymarine A57D Chartplotter and looking at buying a new Raymarine Smartpilot X5 autopilot and wonder if i have to buy the autopilot with the contol head or if the chartplotter will replace the control head and i just have to buy the Corepack kit. Thanks for all your help as i am very electronic illitterate

Sorry would also like to know if there is a shhot thru hull trandsucer available as opposed to a in hull mount

The X-5 unit needs the control head. Go on line and read up on it. The advantage of the X-5 over the older system is the elimination of the rudder indicator making installation simpler. The control head is where you turn the autopilot on. (go from standby to auto) also where you adjust course or go to wind angle sailing or tack through 100 degrees. Also go to GPS mode. The chart plotter is only that.
What kind of thruhull? If you mean for a knot meter, you can always go stern mount like in many power boats.

meant the hockey puck style were there is no drilling the puck is glued to the inside of the hull

You can just

Mount a through hull transducer inside the hull without much problem. Just put it in a baggie of water and move it around till you find a place where it works well. Then stick it down. Lots of different methods and opinions on the method. Silicone, toilet ring wax, epoxy. Your choice. Last one I mounted was with Marine Tex, and it worked well, but if I was doing it again,I would have to give the toilet bowl wax ring a shot.
