Does anyone know about chartering a sailboat in Cancun? Where? How much? Info about the cruising grounds, local knowledge, weather, guide books etc.? Any info will be much appreciated.
Cruising Guide to Belize and Mexico's Caribbean Coast, including Guatemala's Rio Dulce by Freya Rauscher covers the entire region from Mexico to Guatemala. John Rain's Mexico Boating Guide is also helpful. Not sure about chartering in Cancun but having cruised that area I would recommend Belize. Protected waters, lots of options, and many places to charter.
I have charter out of Cancun. There is one guy who owns two Hunter 34's and a swan. Mexican law says that you cannot just charter a boat without a skipper from the company. Not sure if his boats survived last years hurricances. It cost me $600 a day for boat and crew. The price drops when chartering the boat for more than one day. I have had a great time on the boat. One draw back is he doesn't have a licsense for the national underwater park which limits the places you can go. Melissa
I bet the guy who the Belize government refused to help and also refused to let anybody help when he got stuck on a reef would NOT recommend Belize. I definitely will never go there...will avoid it like the plague.
