I have been using a hand held Garmin GPS since I removed my old Loran system.the hand held is ok but eats batteries and it keeps finding its way off the boat after a weekend. Attending a boat show I saw s few chart plotters and Radar systems. (one combined both). I am not sure if I want or I Need the radar. (I will be sailing southern maine this summer & sail2000 in boston) other than that I will be sailing mostly local Nantucket/MV & Cape Cod day sailing and weekend overnights to the Islands. Your comments on do I need radar and chart plotter both? also types and where to place them on the boat. thanks

I luv my 230 with Lake Michigan chip, but if it's to large for your needs, they have a few smaller ones with same spec's just smaller screen.. the older I get the better the large screen LOOKS:)) Mike

GPS

As you know there are many diff. types of GPS's out there. I my self like the 230 due to the fact it has a point and shoot feature that allows you to create way points. The lesser ones dont have this feature. Go with the 230 and dont forget the chip will cost you an extra 300 or more $$$$$$ Best of luck Jim
