I was wondering if anyone had done this trip, or was familiar with the area. I have sailed off Charleston a few times...enough to know about the large tide change. I know one okay anchor spot in Charleston harbor, morris island, but was trying to find out if there were any other better ones. Also any good anchor spots down the coast (I was looking a kiawah island, but it's not very far down the coast), and suggested leg lengths/ good destinations/ good waterside restaurants between Charleston and Hilton Head would be greatly appreciated! Done that and loved it-go to Beaufort

Hey, I have from H Head to Charleston in a cruiser on the intercoastal and it was fun - took 5 hours. If you go via the intercoastal stop overnight or more a Beaufort, SC at the city marina. They have showers, etc and even loan a car to go to the malls (free). From the marina take the walkway along the water to many cheap porchfront restaurants in view of your boat. To make the trip you will need an intercoastal chart (there are a couple of large bays where you will need it). From Beaufort you will pass around Paris Island Marine station and enter a long bay where a compass is helpful. It can be rough water there. Follow the intercoastal to H Head where there are many marinas. Stay out of the N. Atlantic in any weather. The trip will take you about 15 hrs (some sailing).

Pick up Skipper Bob's two guides: ANCHORAGES ALONG THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY, and MARINAS ALONG THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY. They are about $15 - $20 each and worth their weight in gold. There are many marinas, restaurants, anchorages and free tie-ups. Most will be listed in the Skipper Bob guides.
