Sometimes the "charge" indicator light comes on while motoring - not always and typically while at idle speed coming back to the slip and during docking. Boat is 28.5 and has 2GM20F Yanmar with the "B" panel. Big problem, small problem, easy fix, or do I call the yard?

Belt tension or. . .

loose wire. Don't spend a lot of money until you have checked a couple of things. Typically a 2-cyl will vibrate more at idle. That is why I mention wiring. But I think belt tension should be checked at the same time. Too much tension and you put unnecessary strain on the waterpump bearings. Too little and it will slip. You should be able to deflect the longest run of the belt about 1/2". You can also use some emory cloth to take the sheen off of the pulley. All of this assumes that your idle is not too low. Not sure what is normal on a 2GM.

Why not.....

......just put a meter on it a see if the indicator light is correct. Measure the voltage and amperage output at speed and at idle. Also check the condition and wiring at the battery.
