Changing the carpet

As you would expect, the carpet inside the cabin has collected a lot of mildew and ugly stains over the past 18 years. It really needs to be replaced. That seems to be a fairly easy job as far as the V-berth and aft-berth goes, but what about the sidewalls that are partially covered by the saloon cabinets? Could anyone give me advice on the best method to apply? Do I need to take out the cabinets first? What should I replace it with? Noticed that the walls underneath are not terribly even. Thanks, Andreas

Pitch the carpet

I'll bet underneath you have beautiful teak veneer, which is more boaty than carpet. As for the sidewalls, if they're the vinyl used in later models the Island Girl program cleans and preserves them nicely. Good to see people paying attention to their interiors.

I replaced...

the carpet on the hull with hull liner from Hunter. There are other suppliers but Hunter was the least expensive and very responsive. I also carpeted the cabin sole. I made a template from cardboard, selected an indoor carpet, had it cut and bound on all edges. It looks great and is comfortable. Visitors comment it's a bad idea to install carpet because it gets wet and mildews, however, we have not had a problem so far. When we leave we lift the carpet on its edge to allow air all around.

Tricky?

Thanks for the advice, guys! Mike, was it tricky to replace the hull liner in the saloon? Did you remove the side cabinets with the sliding doors? Andreas
