changing the Boot Stripe

I have a 95 Beneteau 351 and am contemplating changing the boot stripe. My boat seems to sit low in the stern and I would like to raise the back of the boot stripe.
Is the stripe painted, so that I could compound it out?
Has anyone done this, if so how did you get the stripe straight and what paint did you use?

Chances are that the boot stripe is in the gelcoat and you wouldn't be able to rub it out.

If you were really lucky' it might be a tape stripe that you could remove with a solvent, but I have my doubts.

My boot stripe lays to a small groove cast into the hull. It is an applied plastic laminate. Distribute your gear and if you have one, keep water in your forward tank. This would also be a beautiful reason to purchase that new 250' of 3/8" chain and 40kg Bruce you have been dreaming about.
