Anyone changed their Strut on a 40.5 or similar. Mine broke in half 2 inches under the hull due to what appears to be corrosion. Strange as some of the zincs had still life on the them. I ordered the strut from hunters owners and plan on doing the work next week in the week or so.

Any advice is welcome.

here are some pics... check your strut too.

This is an exacting job that requires a lot of precision. The bore of the strut bearing MUST be aligned so that the shaft is centered in the stern tube. There are shims required and most of the time they are different from the ones that were original. Really rough picture is that the shaft must be supported in the center of the stern tube. The aft end of the shaft has to be supported vertically so there is no bend in it at all. Then the base of the strut has to be shimmed so that the shaft is exactly in that position (this will involve a few trial boltings) .. then the base bedded and final bolted.

Ugly, ugly! I have to replace my shaft next haul. I'll have the yard inspect it and ring it. I don't know what else they could do.

we had the same on our 40.5, was replace with one that went through the hull as stronger, we were the second one in the year, this seemed odd as so few 40.5 in uk and then found the other boat was same age. Let alone on the solent as well.
