Changing shift cable on C-27

The shift cable on the A4 in my 75 Catalina 27 froze, preventing shifting into either forward or reverse. I bought a new cable, the right part, but there doesn't seem to be enough "throw" in the new cable. It needs an extra 1.5" to get into forward and maybe 4" to get into reverse. I can't change the anchor points for the cable. Any suggestions beyond trying to hook the cable lower down on the transmission lever on the engine?

don't change the position on the lever

The darn 30's have a shorter transmission lever and much less leverage than the 27s. My old 27 shifted nicely and my 30 shifts like a pig. I would look for a new cable if possible.

Owner's Manual Atomic 4

Let me know if you are still looking for the answer to this. I still have the owner's manual to the Atomic 4, and I think it mentions something about this. Rob robrich@austin.rr.com

shift cable

Match up the cables and check the throw of them together. You should be able to get the frozen cable to move. if you can'tdo this, match up the cables in the same relative position. they should each have the same amount of cable ends showing. There is a chance the cable was made incorrectly. I changed my cable once a it worked perfectly.
