Changing Raymarine Display

I have a Raymarine RL70C chart plotter at the helm of my boat and prefer the " Head Up " display setting. Every time I turn on the unit it comes up with a " North Up " setting and I have to go into the menu and change it to my preferred " Head Up " setting. Is there a way to permanently change the setting so I don't have to go in and change it every time I turn on the unit?

Same here. There are a few other quirks. But this one is annoying.

You don't say how old the unit is, but I would first check and upgrade the unit's firmware if it is not up to date. You can find out the last and latest revision on the RayMarine website. It could be that the latest firmware revision fixed that issue.

However, I have a RL80CRC Plus and it has some quirks as well- that is some settings don't "stick". But the Heads-Up setting is not one of them. The RL80 is in the same family as the RL70, so they may both use the firmware if your unit is the "Plus" version.

I also have the RL80C that does not hold the "heading up" setting when unit is turned off and then turned on. When I called Raymarine tech support I was told that when one turns off the RL80C that it defaults to the "north up" setting and there was no way around it.

Model RL70c I have is right at the end of 2001 model year and just before ais capability.:soapbox:
Had to add a Garmin gpsmap 492 display found new unit on Ebay with antenna for about $250 bucks . Found AIS200 Digital Yachts dual channel receiver on line at manventure outpost LLC for about $232 bucks.
The Garmin works great always turns on with heads up or course up and receives ais signal from the AIS200 just fine. And even though the display is 1/2 the size of the RL70c the Garmin display is easier to read then the RL70c display. I have it mounted on Edison mount next to the RL70c it can pivot around for easier viewing. Were as the raymarine you have be standing right above it looking down at it. But RL70c does create good shading from the sun when returning back home up the channel in the evening before sunset.;)
