Changing raw water impeller, any tips?

Compass Marine's site has pictures of what you are describing. I see what you mean so I will have to pull the end off and see what it looks like in there.

Here are 3 pictures of what the ends of my heat exchanger looked like when I first got my boat. And the PO was proud of the fact that he changed the zinc in the HE each year!

I also included a picture of what the impeller looked like. He had never changed it in 10 years (I do think it was changed after the first 50 hours because his dealer did a new motor servicing).

Nothing like good pictures. when I put the new one in I could feel some resistance but even though it was a little tight it went in (oh boy). Do you think it is possible it could have blocked water flow. Doesn't seem like it would. No matter what the wife says about leaving things alone I am going to have to look inside. Don't you just love this time of year?
