changing the oil for the first time on a 1999 310 i just bought. I took the drain plug off but oil did not drain out. I know there is plenty in there because the dip indicates it. How do i get it out! thanks

That may not be a drain plug.

Maybe the newer Yanmars have some sort of drain plug on the oil pan, but typically, Paul, you will have to extract the oil thru a small tube inserted thru the dip stick hole. This will require a special pump and tube designed for this. Make sure the engine oil is warmed up beforehand. Then do the filter. You should call Hunter, first. They may be able to explain the "phantom" drain plug that's on the engine. Good Luck.

Drain plug

I've posted this a few times. Remove the pan, install a drain plug and change your oil just like you do with your car. It's an easy one time job that will pay you back year after year. My oil changes take me 5 minutes and I don't even get my hands dirty.

Everyone has their favorite method for this task. I used to have boat that had a so-called drain plug at the bottom of the pan. It never drained properly. I eventually bought one of those impeller pumps you connect to a hand drill. Insert small tube into the dipstick hole, hit start, and the oil is outta there in seconds. Very easy and little mess.

Word for

I'll put a word in for the Pela 2000 oil extractor. What I like most about it is that it is very clean and when not being used it stores in the aprox 10"X10" box it came in. At Boater's World and other places.
