I am planning to change antifreeze in the cooling system of my Yanmar 3YM30 (the closed circulation, not the sea water). I could find in the engine manual the coolant capacity, but that does not include the volume of the coolant circulating through the water heater. Does anybody know what extra volume is needed for that on 2006 Hunter 33?

And a related question: when draining the coolant how to make sure that all of it is drained especially from the water heater, and then that the whole circuit is refilled?

Thanks in advance,
Tomek

Can't. Help with the first q. If you don't get a good answer, just measure hose length and dia to calculate volume plus a little for the coil.

The only way to be sure you removed the old stuff from the heater system is to vacuum it out.

Water heater will not add a whole lot more, less than 1 jug. I did mine and just kept adding till full. It's not critical actual capacity like oil, just need to be full and reservoir at proper level.

BTW where are you in Penetang. Up until this year we were 7 years at Baymoorings. Now up in Parry Sound. What is the name of your boat.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your reply. So from your answer I gather not to worry about the part that is in the heater, it will just mix with the new coolant, right?

I am at Hindson's. She is "Knot A Dream". I still have to get the name done, looking for a good adhesive-lettering maker.
But that's a story for another thread.

Yes, it will fill with the rest of the system.

I got the lettering for ours in Port Credit, forget the name but they did all the Hunter boats for Angus and True North.
